Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information MoneyNorthStar collects and how it is used during the closed beta. MoneyNorthStar is built around the idea that your financial data is yours — we collect only what is needed to run the product.

What we collect

• Account information you provide directly: name, email, phone (optional).
• Financial data you enter or import: accounts, transactions, holdings, categories, and related notes.
• Basic usage data (e.g. pages visited) used to improve the product and diagnose issues.

We do not connect to your bank accounts, and we do not sell your data to third parties.

How we use it

• To operate the Service: computing balances, true exposure, trends, and other calculated views.
• Optional AI features (e.g. category suggestions) send only the specific data needed for that feature — such as a payee description — to our AI provider, never your full financial history.
• To communicate with you about your account, such as email verification and security notices.

Market and fund data

Prices and fund constituent data are sourced from third-party providers (currently Alpaca/IEX for prices) and are used only to compute your own valuations and exposure — never resold or redistributed.

Your controls

• Export: download a ZIP of your data (accounts, transactions, holdings, categories, and exposure) at any time from your profile page.
• Delete: permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from your profile page. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
• Two-factor authentication: optionally add an authenticator-app-based second factor to your login.

Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, associated accounts, transactions, holdings, categories, and exposure rows are deleted immediately.

Security

Passwords are hashed, sensitive two-factor secrets are encrypted at rest, and access to the Service requires authentication. No online service can guarantee absolute security, particularly during a closed beta.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected by a new version date above.
